Hotel goes bust leaving staff and suppliers unpaid and guests' deposits lost
Television’s Gogglebox stars Steph and Dom Parker have called it a day for their luxury hotel venture when the Salutation in Kent went bust last month.
They closed the doors to the hotel in January but have now decided the business is to be liquidated under a CVL.
John Fothergill has run the business with his wife Dorothy since 2016 and have a five-year lease with the Gogglebox couple. Fothergill undertook a multi million pound refurbishment of the hotel which has 17 bedrooms and a top class restaurant attached.
Dom Parker said: ‘’We are sorry to confirm that The Salutation Hotel Ltd, which has been managing The Salutation has indeed become insolvent. We are in discussions with other interested parties and we aim to have the hotel back up and running very soon, under new management. Our thoughts are with the staff who have been affected by this.’’
The hotel issued this statement:
The Salutation Hotel Limited. Following the Company’s closure in January 2020, The Salutation Hotel Limited has instructed Augusta Kent Limited, Licensed Insolvency Practitioners, to assist in placing the Company into a formal insolvency process called Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation.
