Meat eaters wanted: as Covid-19 regulations ease there’s an alarming rise in voluntary liquidations among meat wholesalers
As the UK emerges from the Covid restrictions industries that have been shut down by Government rules are blinking into the sunlight of hibernation and things are not good for meat wholesalers.
Scores of meat whole sellers across the country are going into voluntary liquidation with more forced to enter administration or compulsory liquidation. The reasons ae self-evident: their markets have been destroyed by the lockdowns.
ICSM understands from industry insiders that many meat businesses that supply individual restaurants and pubs have decided to shut up shop as the furlough payments end this autumn. And with fixed overheads many have seen any reserves eaten up.
Conversations with representatives of The Association of Independent Meat Suppliers confirms that smaller suppliers in particular have been hit hard by the last few months. Numerous restaurants and pubs have gone bust as the finances collapsed while the slow reopening hasn’t helped with diners expected to sit outside in the chilly spring weather.
Here is tiny part of the list of some of those meat wholesalers who have decided to call it a day:
AITKEN FOODS LIMITED 05514178
AGNES FOODS LIMITED 06299080
AGINCOURT FOODS LIMITED 06299022
BURLINGTON FOODS LIMITED 06374162
BROMPTON FOODS LIMITED 06374128
BROADBENT FOODS LIMITED 05564231
FIREBAY LIMITED 05520053
AXEBAY LIMITED 05516764
AVIVAR TRADING LIMITED 04796749
AVANTE CONTRACTS LIMITED 03245635
ASHCOURT FOODS LIMITED 05500692
EXEMILL LIMITED 07025596
One business insider who wished to remain anonymous said: “Meat traders have had to continue paying out to stay in business hoping for an early relaxation of rules. Some have taken the cynical but understandable view that they might as well liquidate now. Wait for the business to return and to reopen under a new name when it does.”
