Printing industry takes another hit as Zanders Paper folds – plus news of more print industry firms in trouble

One of the paper industry’s best known name Zanders Paper of Cologne has gone into liquidation. Generations of graphic designers and paper specifiers will have been familiar with their cast coated Chromolux range of paper, label papers, and board.

The collapse of the firm which began in March when they entered a form of administration will not only leave a hole in the supply chain but will also leave many suppliers out of pocket. Ian Carrotte of ICSM said they were aware of several firms who relied on Zanders products would not get fulfilment of deliveries while suppliers were likely to be left unpaid.

Writing in Print Week Jo Francis reported: “Zanders was founded in 1828 and the Chromoloux brand dates back to 1958. It makes other papers under the Zan- range of brands. The company has been through a series of changes of ownership, and a previous insolvency, in recent years. Former owner Metsä Board sold the business in 2015. It entered insolvency proceedings in the summer of 2018, and was taken over in November of that year by a new company headed by Norwegian pulp and paper businessman Terje Haglund.”

Plus this week news has come through of more printing and allied businesses have hit the buffers. Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation Deemed in Consent Meetings were recorded for the & Then Studio Limited, KJ Displays and ML Design Services Limited, while liquidators were appointed for Candid Cards Limited, Eurotex, Inflate Works and Kalo.
