ICSM Business News: paper industry in trouble as administrators take control of historic paper mills
One of Britain’s major paper mills has gone into administration amid rising costs afer trading since 1738. Arjo Wiggins Uk Group has placed its mills at Stoneywood and Chartham appointing administrators Blair Nimmo and Alistair McAlinden from Interpath Advisory as joint administrators at ten Arjowiggins Group UK subsidiary companies on 22 September 2022.
Ian Carrotte of ICSM said there had been rumours for sometime that the business was in trouble with the industry seeing contraction due to the rise of the internet, decrease in paper sales and the rises in material costs along with interest rate increase, fuel and energy costs.
Print Week reported that Arjowiggins joint administrator Alistair McAlinden, said: “We understand this is an incredibly difficult time for the group’s workforce. Our priority is to work closely with the Unions, UK and Scottish Government agencies, including PACE and Job Centre Plus, as well the relevant local authorities to provide members of staff with all of the support and information they need, including the information necessary to make claims for redundancy pay from the Redundancy Payments Office.
“Over the coming days and weeks, we will be exploring options to achieve the sale of the sites and assets and would ask that potential interested parties contact us as a matter of urgency.”
Those companies are:

Arjowiggins Group Limited
Arjowiggins Papers Limited
Arjowiggins Scotland Limited
