ICSM Retail Insolvency News: more shops go bust ahead of Andy Burnham promising help for the High Street

By Harry Mottram: Andy Burnham is set to be the new UK Prime Minister soon and with him will be a new team - including more than likely a new Chancellor next door. ICSM is hoping that he instigates some of his business friendly policies.

These include the reform of business rates with some businesses in the High Street exempt to increase footfall and more power devolved to Mayors and Councils so they can set fairer rates with an eye to charge out of town warehouses and shopping centres more. It’s not the first time the fashion chain Quiz has entered administration but this time it looks like curtains for the store founded in 1993.

Known as the coming-of-age store for teenage girls Claire's accessories has again entered administration just weeks after the business had been rescued from collapse last year. Upmarket fashion retailer LK Bennett is to close all its standalone stores after going into administration despite investment firm Gordon Brothers buying the brand. To compound the high street’s problems they didn’t want the shops and staff. There are nine standalone shops and 13 department store concessions.

In June Leading Labels founded in 1993, selling discounted men's and women's clothing from big-name brands across the UK and Ireland has gone bust. The 15 branches have shut and the 200 staff have been made redundant. It entered liquidation in May 2026, with Jeremy Bleazard of XL Business Solutions Limited appointed as liquidator on 26 May 2026. A petition in July to wind up Vapestop Limited in Twickenham was made while ClickKart in London has had a winding up order and butchers in Warrington – ARJ Butchers (Shaws) Limited also had a winding up order in May. Administrators have been appointed for Barretts of Woodbridge Limited of Woodbridge in May.
