ICSM PRINT INDUSTRY Insolvency News: The summer collapse of Telford’s Precision Colour Printing speeded up once the word emerged of financial problems
By Harry Mottram: Readers of Print Week will have been following the slow death of the Telford company Precision Colour Printing (PCP) during September as the major player in the sector collapsed into administration. It cannot be underestimated the shock waves this has caused as the firm based on 14 acres in the Shropshire town employed around 140 staff and have a long list of suppliers who will not be wondering whether they will be paid. When it became known in August there was a problem at PCP some of the customers took fright and left the struggling outfit – especially after the departures of managing director Nick Evans and finance director Nick Denning last month – according to Jo Francis of Print Week.
She reported that ‘administrators from Alvarez & Marsal were appointed at the Telford web offset and sheetfed printer on 27 August. The administrators conducted an accelerated process to explore a potential sale of the business.’
In a statement, joint administrators Mike Denny and Michael Magnay said: “Regrettably, the process did not generate any viable interest from potential buyers. The joint administrators have therefore begun an orderly wind-down of the company’s operations.”
Francis reported: “PCP’s most recent results, for calendar year 2024, showed sales down 11.4% at just under £27.9m. Its 2025 results had been due to be filed at the end of this month.”
Ian Carrotte of ICSM said this was a tragedy for the printing industry and for Telford with so many local jobs. He said with a contracting business environment it was very difficult to run a large manufacture with some strong economic head wins.
